“Adult” Pizza Rolls



As a kid, pizza rolls were an integral part of my diet plan. I liked to overcook them ever so slightly, so that the cheese oozed out just a little, and the crust hardened in a mess of burnt cheese deliciousness. Morning, noon, or night… it was always pizza roll time. 

I miss pizza rolls. But the reformed, adult version of myself no longer allows such processed food to exist in the home, and thus I suffer a pizza-roll-less existence. Woe is me.

But no mas! I recently discovered the joy that are wonton wrappers, and began researching the endless possibilities of recipes I could use them in. There were lasagna bites, taco cupcakes, even fresh crab rangoons (sounds tedious). While those recipes sounded dreamy, I only had a jar of tomato sauce, shredded cheese, and some Italian salami and thus thirteen year old Jaclyn rejoiced: Pizza Rolls, at last.

Adult Pizza Rolls
– 1 Package Wonton Wrappers
– Shredded Mozzarella Cheese
– Sliced Salami, Pepperoni or Prosciutto (optional)
– Italian Seasonings (Thyme, Basil, Oregano)
-Small Bowl Filled with Water, for Sealing Wontons


Set half of wontons aside & preheat oven to 425.


In a mixing bowl, mix 1 cup of prepared of fresh tomato/spaghetti sauce with 2 cups shredded mozzarella


Add a pinch of salt, thyme, oregano and basil.


Add sliced meat, if using.


Take wontons and lay on lined cookie sheet. Using a teaspoon, put small amount of cheese/sauce mixture in center of each wonton.

Using bowl of water, dip finger in water and line 2 sides of wonton wrapper, then fold, pressing until wonton sticks.



Using an oil cooking brush or Pam, lightly cover wontons in oil & cook at 425 for 15 minutes.



Lay on paper towels, and gaze at your awesome creation.

  1. These look really tasty! Can you create these with a Mexican flare? Let’s say a “Rocky Point Egg Roll?” The wonton can be filled with carne asada, onionis, cabage, and top off with some pico de gallo? Keep cooking like no one is watching but make sure someone is tasting!
